State Titles

Gundagai

The start of this show run was at Gundagai the state titles.
The idea of having it at Gundagai was great as its only 2hrs or so from Canberra and would have been a great start to the whole run.
Unfortunately it had to be called off on the last day due to the ridiculous amount of rain.
Nevertheless, the show was run very well and everything was organised perfectly.
The team jumped very well and Greer seems to be bonding well with Sue as she was in 2nd place behind Tom McDermont (obviously) on the last day and had been placing well in every event she went into, Lucy and Brian were very co-operative as well, unfortunately just having a rail down here or there. I think they were saving themselves for nationals :-).
Cruise and Uncle Toby jumped there tooshies off throughout the show, unfortunately Danielle has no sense of time and ended up having a few time faults.
We also took the 2 young ones, George and Zulu, for a bit of experience, they were super and didnt seem to mind at all about the weather,
They were both in the 1.00m class in ring three.

Australian Championships

We then went onto the Australian Championships at Canberra, which we were a little worried about looking at the weather forecast.
Leaving the 2 young ones at home took a bit of pressure off us as a team and left us to concentrate on the competition horses.
First day was young riders and we had 5 horses in it 3 for Greer and 2 for Danielle, it was speed and we were both revved up to go for it as it was a table C, which means a rail just counts as 4 seconds and doesn’t put clear rounds in front of you.
We walked the course and found the only real thing you could do was gallop faster than everyone else...Danielle didn’t rate it so we ended up just having nice faster than usual rounds. In the afternoon Danielle had a futurity on Cruise, she went clear in the first round, and was second out in the jump off after Amanda Madigan. I dunno what happened but she had a freak of a round and shot into the lead with a time of 43.96 which at the time she must have thought “ there’s still around 8 or ten people to go” so she went back to the stables.
But as she listened over the loud speaker to the people unable to beat her time she thought “maybe I had an alright round”.
Until Tom McDermont came out on Twins Limerick, a horse that Tom had purchased from us about 10 months ago. He had a great round and a time of 43.26 just skimming past Mr Cruiseys time but he still ended up in 2nd which Danielle was very happy with.

The second day was an AM5 and Danielle didn’t go clear on either of her horses but was in the teams event for NSW with Tom, Georgie Lucas and James Arkins, so got to come back for the second round.
Greer got all three of her horses into the second round and came  5th on Brian and Danielle came 1st in the teams event :-D
That afternoon Danielle had the Mini Prix on Toby and I guess he felt bad about the young riders and jumped amazing and ended up 3rd behind Vicki Roycroft and Andrew Inglis.
On the last day it was done on the point score so Danielle and Greer only got 2 horses through, Toby and Lucy, they placed in 6th overall.
In the afternoon Danielle had the Futurity final and cruise jumped amazing as well as Danielle riding a great 2nd round but unfortunately had a bit of a retard moment coming to the last fence, well done to Sharon Slater who won the class on CP Ullesis
