Rod Brown Clinic & Camden Winter Showjumping Festival
This month has seen the twins getting young horses out for some of their first shows and some extra tutorial in clinics with Rod Brown.
This time Greer and Danielle decided to take Landsong and Higgs to the 2 day clinic with Rod at SIEC, where we worked on flying changes, straight lines and curbing related lines. Rod had us canter in straight lines directly to him where we would keep the horses flexion in the direction of our lead, as we got closer we would move our outside leg back and change the direction of the flexion making sure we kept as much balance as possible and we would attempt the flying change, this exercise was especially effective in training as we would be working on our straight lines at the same time.
We then moved onto jumping the curved lines from 5 strides to 7 strides and keeping the momentum around the corners. After perfecting the lines and the concept of the flying change, we jumped the whole course making sure to put into practice…what we’d been practicing.
After the very relaxing but informative and useful lesson with Rod we went to enjoy one of the best Saturday winter lunches I’ve ever had, thanks to Edwina Mitchell everyone was able to warm up and fill up feasting on her delicious noodle stew :-D
After a tough couple of weeks preparing the babies for one of there first shows we attended the very well organised and prepared Camden Winter Showjumping Festival. There were about 110 or more horses and riders there, 3 rings and 6 classes a day, with everyone worrying about how all of these horses and riders were going to jump their rounds before midnight, John and Jane had already figured that out and we were all done by 2 pm.
On the first day I had 5 young ones in the 75cm George, Washington, Bam, Enzo and Zulu they were all fabulous…in the arena. As I lunged George before getting on him I noticed that he was quite docile and unmoved by the atmosphere around and decided I was ready to get on... how wrong I was! After Sara lifted me on I felt his back bulge. I gave him a little kick to let him know he wasn’t getting away with being cheeky and apparently he didn’t care, although his naughty attempt of getting me off didn’t work, as I went to brace myself I somehow broke my hand. Luckily my mum is a pharmacist or I don’t think it would have been so easy to ride the rest of the weekend.
The young ones just got more confident and relaxed and Greer won the 1.10m Grand Prix Championship on Twins Zenith. More photos in News Gallery

Twins Zenith Wins 1.10 grand Prix at Camden Festival of Showjumping
Last weekend we went to jump club with all of our trained and non bucking horses to give them a little hit out before the QLD run gets any closer. Danielle took Quantum and Big Higgs and Greer took Lovesong, Landsong and Zenith. The boys all jumped like fresh daisies and Lovesong came 4th in the D grade of about 50.
We also received our twins brand in the mail this week and are very excited to start branding some horses.
